History of Zegrzyński Palace

The history of Zegrzyński Palace backs to 1847. There was then the new owners of Zegrze, Krasinski family, founded the farm and built a Palace in a beautiful park. In 1862, Jadwiga Krasińska married to Maciej Radziwił and was bringing in dowry possessions with aristocratic palace to Radziwiłł family. However couple didn’t enjoy the possession, because of the strategic position of Zegrze couses, that the governments tsarist decided to build a fortress in Zegrze. After in 9 June 1889 when Tsar Alexander III decided to build a fortress in Zegrze,  Russians took out the part of the Zegrze together with the neighboring fields. Purchase from Jadwiga Krasińska was under protest, however the position and functions performed by her husband, Maciej Radziwill certainly facilitated the transaction and made that transfer on favorable terms for the amount of 300 000 rubles. Maciej Radziwill has served function of the Tsar's chamberlain since 1884.  In 1902, after selling of Zegrze Radziwill built a new palace near Jadwisin.

In 1897 works were completed. The culminating moment in the history of the Zegrzyński Palace was the visit of Tsar Nicholas II on 21 August 1897. That visit was accompanied by Minister of War Peter Wannowski. There are signs, that the monarch visited Zegrzyński Palace, which then was adapted to the summer residence of the commander of the Warsaw Fortified Region and the commanders of the fortress. There lived the generals : Dmitry Woroniec, Epifan Husakow, Alexander Lebedin, and Alexander Petrov. Therefore Radziwill Palace was also called "Palace of Generals."

After regaining independence, 28 November 1918 as commander of the fortress was appointed Olgierd Pożerski. He used Radziwill Palace until the liquidation of the fortresses  in 1921.  Zegrze places were the site of the stationing of units and communications centers, staff training and communications. In 1919 was set up the camp Liaison Officer Training, and later Communications Training Center. At that time in the Palace lived commanders training. The park around the Palace was carefully designed and developed, there were made alleys  for walking, playgrounds and planted many trees and flowers.

In 1959 the Palace was handed to Polish Press Agency including the surrounding area, which was collecting press from around the world. Since September 2009 Zegrzyński Palace, with the park has belonged to Warszawianka Hotel Congress Centre in Jachranka.
